What You Need Is Pillows

“I still cannot get why I didn’t wear a hat,” my sister said. “They all wore hats for the final photo, and I refused to, and ruined the photo.”

“Maybe you weren’t in the hat-wearing mood.”

“I like how that sounds. The organiser was speaking of leaving your comfort zone and becoming a better version of yourself. And I feel like just living.”

“I like your version, not the better one. And about the comfort zone: I guess we never enter it in our family. So how can you exit it?”

“Now I feel like making a course about finding a comfort zone for those who have never had one.”

“This would sell,” I laughed. “People like precise recipes. But I think just living is the best one. And then there are pillows. The little things that keep you afloat. For me, those are painting a hedgehog, seeing cactuses in the park, speaking to you.”

“You sound like Unprincipled Advice.”

“If you’re riding a bike through the hall… Brake into Dad. Dad is soft. He’ll forgive,” I recalled a line from our childhood book.

“Yes, forget about a self-improvement plan. What you need is pillows, many pillows.”
